1. I have NEVER seen any type switch to turn off 120 or 12 volt in a slide room. Especially on a cheaper RV.
2. I would suspect you have a BAD 120 connection and it makes contac only when the room is extended and separates when retracted.
3. It would be easy to convert the lights to 12 volt. You buy 12 volt lights. You disconnect the 120 at its feed under the slide room junction box. Use the white and black wire of the 120 romex and connect the under slide to a 12 volt positive and negative. Doug
