  • Wasn't there something posted here yesterday about diodes? Hmmm
  • 24v panel s/b less than $1 per watt. (plus shipping so try to buy local pickup)
  • Mena661,

You guys!!! What else can I say but I'm getting ready to stick my metatarsus into the shallow water.

I need a 24v panel which cost more than the 12v listings. 'UL' shows a 24v/130w for $289 may have to pull the trigger here.

Thanks to all of you who are into solar power. Maybe I'm headed into becoming another addict.

  • Add a few more bids, plus the shipping charge, it will be the going price.

I thought the cells in my china panels were made in Germany. But overall, The workmanship in my panels is superb !

Just was reading a story about the high failure rate of these cheap Chinese panels. It is around 13-15% right now. So the cheap price might not be such a bargain after all.
Do you mean all Chinese panels or just the cheaper one's?
  • Not the same panel but my 5W panels from UL Solar were not very good. Broken cells, one down the middle so 50% of the cell could not contribute, and one panel with perfect cells but zero output. One cell in the string they did not cut from the wafer where the conductive lines are tied together. That one cell they tried to put the tabbing on the thin lines instead which didn't work.

Wish I had discovered it back when I bought it instead of a couple of years later.
  • "UL Solar's solar panel uses top quality solar cells manufactured in Taiwan"

To be specific. Cells manufactured in Taiwan. WHERE are the mainland Chinese failure points? If it is in the cells and not the infrastructure then it puts a different perspective on things. This panel may very well be assembled in mainland China using Taiwanese cells.

I've seen ten dollar items on ebay close at more than four hundred dollars so I am not holding my breath.
  • The current auction bid is $105, it will probably close at a higher price.

My understanding from the description is that UL Solar builds the module in the US and uses cells made in Taiwan. The static load rating of the module is 5400Kpa, which is inline with some of the better modules.

This may be one to watch.
