2006 E450 V10 idling rough and stalling

Problem resolved: replaced the mass airflow (MAF) sensor. RV runs great, and all codes have been cleared out. So glad I bought the code reader. It was pretty clear what the problem was after I had the codes. Highly recommend buying a code reader, if you don't already have one (less than $25).
BTW, local parts stores sell MAF sensors for over $100. Bought a brand new one online for less than $35 and it works just fine.

I'd go over both wiring harnesses before putting any parts on it. Especially since the MAF is so close to the air filter.

Did a really thorough inspection and could not find any other rodent damage. Bought a code reader and found 2 codes: P0103 and P2106. P0103 means a problem with the MAF sensor. Cleaned it 3 times, but still same problem, so I ordered another one and will replace it in a few days. P2106 indicates a problem with the Throttle Control System. Troubleshooting guide indicates that there are several other codes (including P0103) that should be cleared up before addressing P2106, so hopefully the new MAF Sensor will clear both these codes and get it running smoothly again. I'll keep you posted.

If they were in the air filter, they were in other places. The elbow on the back of the intake is notorious to leak. Do you know how to remove the dog house?

I say, vacuum leak on the PCV hose.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to try to get the codes, clean the MAF sensor and replace the fuel filter for starters this weekend. I'll keep you posted on how it all turns out.

Maybe the nest inhabitants were "at home" when she fired up. I am very very leery of coincidences. Too bad you cannot get your hands on a telescopic remote camera. Big electrical contractors have them.

If you found nest and ran it before changing the filter I'd check everything up to the intake manifold could have sucked nest material into the manifold.

The E450 V10 is 'known' for fuel pump failures.
I battled what you are going thru with 4 different mechanics while I was traveling on the road. All did something or replaced something and charged me for it and I still had the same problems down the road.

I finally pulled into a Ford dealership with it and the first thing they brought out was a pressure test equipment for the fuel pump. Mine needed a fuel pump. Not like the old days when they just stopped working and you knew. Mine was ok in the am and then it would heat up and cause the problems. The fuel pump test will tell you one way or the other. Takes all of about 10 minutes for them to hook up and tell you the great news you need a fuel pump. :(

I would replace the fuel filters and then run it over to Ford and have the fuel pump tested and/or the codes run. Before you drive yourself crazy trying to track down the problem yourself. Seein' as the fuel pump is 'inside' the fuel tank nowadays. So you can't get at yourself. :R

Just call your local Ford dealer and ask where their truck dealership is located. All Ford car dealers will have a truck dealership somewhere close by in the same town. They will work on the RV.

I had mine done around Bishop, GA. maybe Monroe not sure but it only was a half hour away from my CG in Bishop. Don't know how close your are to them but they were one a great FORD truck shop! I had pets on board and the manager even offered to bring the pets into his air conditioned office during the repairs. Good luck.
