I had the exact same symptoms on our 2013 KZ Durango. You could hear the motor turn, but nothing was happening.
It turned out to be a bolt that had come loose, and was not holding the motor engaged with the gears. The bolt was still there, but was way loose.
If you have not done so already, you should pull the belly wrap away from the suspect motor/gear area and inspect it while someone tries to operate the slide. On ours, the access "slit" in the belly wrap was secured with a plastic tie. You oughta be able to see what's going on then.
