2014 Atwood Helium fridge not working. Freezer works though?

I am sure this topic may have been brought up before, but I have a 2014 Atwood Helium Fridge. Freezer working perfect, but fridge working very little no none at all. Yes its level, yes I have given it plenty of time to charge.

I looked over the back side and nothing seems out of place, or any creature nests etc.

Before I take it to the local dealer, any ideas on an easy fix?

Thanks in advance!!
  • Overheating may have caused the anti corrosion material to crystallize and block the line.
  • It might be that the cooling coils are only in the freezer and the fridge is cooled by a vent from the freezer which might blocked/plugged.
  • Atwood Helium fridge is no different then a Dometic/Norcold fridge except for the use of helium vs hydrogen gases.

Freezer section and food compartment section have separate evap coils for cooling
Freezer coil is first in process and has to get cold before food section coil can have capacity to absorb heat.

Freezer cold...food compartment NOT getting cool
    Could be door gasket/seals leaking
Could be obstruction/blockage in food compartment coil/tubing
Could be dirty burner/flue/flue baffle if using LP
    Could be faulty AC Element
    Could be bad thermistor
    Could be bad circuit board

    Biggest issue.....
Atwood Helium Fridges (HE601/801) were first produced in late 2011 and GONE by 2016 (Dometic purchased the Atwood Fridge division in 2014??? and discontinued the HE Series in 2016)
Replacements parts...not available unless some vendor has something sitting on a back shelf (NOS --- new old stock)

Very little info available for the HE Series
Here is the only manual for them...not much info
    Atwood HE-601/801

What you are say'in from the way I read it is, they are basically junk.

    NOT at all........
Head to head testing of Dometic Hydrogen and Atwood Helium ---both preformed adequately/no real differences

Dometic did away with the Atwood Helium Series due to higher production costs/lack of readily available helium

Problems listed apply equally to a hydrogen unit that is not cooling properly

Junk in the sense that can't replace 'parts'....but can replace cooling unit
    Same as older Dometic/Norcold Models
  • I went through the same sort of thing with a Helium fridge. I fixed mine by replacing the main circuit board. I have since sold that RV and still have the spare parts I accumulated when I discovered the parts were not being made anymore.

  • Atwood designed the Helium due to being SAFER when there was a leak. But, when world prices and lack of availability of Helium became a factor, they were absorbed by Dometic. Doug
  • thanks for all the responses! Doesnt sound like there any easy common fixes!
Travelin2, how did you pinpoint that your circuit board was your part that went bad?
    Thanks!
