30amp camper plugged into 110 home outlet

Hi All: My camper has 30amp service. The dealer gave me a adapter so that I can plug the 30amp into a one side and plug a 110 extension cord into the other side and then plug the extension cord into a standard household 110 plug in the house. The extension cord needs to be about 80 feet long to reach the household plug. All cords are three prong. The extension cord is a heavy cord approved for outside use. Question; Is this safe for the camper and the household circuits.
The plan is to run the refrig. to cool it down. I was told not to run the A/C or any other appliances. Thanks. Jim2007
  • At 80 FEET.....(even with a 12 gauge extension cord ).....I would not even consider turning on the air conditioner !!!!!!!(unless you want to chance burning out the motor..due to low voltage)..power loss at longer runs.

you should be just fine just running the fridge to get it going and the converter for lights and things like that -----but at 80 ft..... reducing the 30 amp down into basically a 15 amp outlet you're going to heat up the court and melt the adapter or the cord if you try running a heavy load at 80 foot !!!!!

the other person probably had a short length of cord and was lucky ----but at 80 feet there's no way unless you basically do about a 8 or 10 gauge and wired directly to panel

You'll be fine just running the fridge and maybe a couple lights maybe the TV ---------no microwave no coffee maker no toaster toaster oven----- anything big at 80 FEET.
  • Jim, I can ONLY speak for myself on this. We frequently have our 31' TT plugged into shore power at home using a 110 plug. I too have purchased a high quality extension cord. I run the fridge, lights, TV and air conditioner without ever having had a problem. I'm plugged into a 3 prong extension in the garage. Maybe I got lucky and found the right plug - maybe our house is really well wired (probably is). Earlier this year DW and me were studying for different state examination tests for work (Doc and Teacher). We each spent a week camped out 12 hours a day in the rig. No problems. But that's my experience.
