When the hose let go, the detail you didn't see was the temperature gauge (maybe has only an idiot light?) going through the roof.
I agree with the others, most probably blown head gasket, if you are lucky. That happens often when an engine overheats. If not so lucky, warped/cracked head. In any case, there is no cure save for fixing what needs fixed. Sorry to hear of your troubles, may the repairs prove less expensive than you hoped.
