50A male plug wiring
I am replacing the male end of the plug. Does it matter which post red and black are on i.e. does it have to be the same on the male and female plug as long as ground and neutral are correct? thanks-

Yes, voltage is often different between L1 and L2. We are in a park right now where there is a 5-7 VAC difference.
Basically, they have likely run more of the 30 amp sites on one leg than the other.
So, we use the A/C powered by the "stronger" leg.
