Question

Hello, I have a 7.5DKDFJ Onan diesel generator that starts and runs, powers the inverter/charger. The problem I’m having is when running the roof air, it runs the fan fine, but when the compressor kicks on, the air shuts off. The Magnum panel shows no dc voltage for a few seconds and then returns to normal. I’m wondering if it’s the voltage regulator because air conditioner works fine on shore power.

7.5kw, just took some voltage readings. 118v on shore power and 93v on generator

Right there is your problem - 93 volts. No AC compressor is going to start and run on voltage that low.

I understand, any ideas of why the low voltage? Voltage regulator?

Don't know if you solved your problem, as reply is a bit dated.  7.5. DKD with low volts probably voltage reg, (most DKD's use a transformer type regulator)make sure engine running at correct speed (1800rpm= 60hz on this gen). Low speed will have low voltage output. Other possible causes are partially shorted exciter/rotor/stator winding
