Advent RV air problem

Ok peoples, our TT has a 13.5k Advent ducted air conditioning system. It’s not the original air, it replaced a Carrier unit that the original TT owner had issues with. After several mods it cools fairly well even in this Texas heat.
My issue lies here, I went to install the Advent hard start kit because it won’t run on my gennys and every once in a while it will kick the breaker on the TT itself. So I ordered the kit, installed it and now the compressor won’t come on at all. It clicks then stops trying. I go and take it out of the system and everything works like before. The new hard start cap is probably bad from the get-go but now I have oil coming from out of the old cap.
I go to look for a new cap with the specs 50/10mF and the rest is fairly standard for an AC cap. The start/run rating however is presenting an issue as it is not a common size or rating. In fact it differs greatly from the capacitor rating for Dometic and Coleman which leads me to believe someone “upgraded” the new A/C capacitor when they installed it to prevent hard starts possibly. Regardless, I am waiting on a callback from Advent Tech to see if they can shed some light on this.
Anyone have thoughts on this matter? Maybe an Advent unit they can check the specs on the cap and verify or not the cap I have is correct?

Thanks. You also ask a few questions I have not yet ask. So double thanks.

Glad to know you are back in the cool. Looking forward to getting my new cap in 2 weeks (next time I visit post office box).
  • So I got a new dual run cap, properly sized at 60+5 per Advent and now the air is running QUIETER and the compressor kicks in with very minimal noise and rather quickly I might add. There is no long drawn out spin up like it used to.
Problem is, the add-on start cap I bought is still no good. I'm shooting for the fact that it was defective from the get-go so I'm trying to get a replacement for it. For now though, I believe that the properly sized cap in the system will solve a majority of my issues. Still would like to know how that cap got put in there and for what reason.

Did you keep the original Cap? Some shops can check the cap for you.. However I can't point you to 'em. My cap testers are not up to the task.

I just ordered a hard start kit for my Advent for other reasons.

The “original” run cap is still in there. I actually spoke with Advent tech support and it appears the run cap is NOT the original nor is it the original specs. My air requires a 69+5 dual cap so the 50+10 isn’t right at all. Given that my guess is that the mismatched start cap overheated the run cap. They sent me a new one today and I went and bought one as well from the local HVAC store. Turns out the CORRECT cap is a lot easier to find.....
