Well if we're going to stop having fun and go back to being on topic then here I go.
A difference between dino and syn is how it flows at temps. Two cans of 10w30 at -20f the syn will come out of the bottle like water while the dino will be like syrup. So it might be possible that the dino will build up more oil pressure sooner.
In the old days you would pour in that STP honey goop to quiet an engine. Might be what the dino is doing.

After thinking about it more, and the oil pressure angle, you may have worn main rod bearings. Thicker oil would cover that up some, just like the old STP goop did.
