air conditioner leaking water into camper

If it's an occasional drip it may just be condensation forming on cooled parts after the air leaves the evaporator fins. Is it very humid? This happened to us in our old poorly-insulated TT down on the hot texas coast.

Ch the condition of the gasket between the a/c and the roof. New this gasket is almost 1" thick and compresses over time. You will see 4 hold down screws, one in each corner of the a/c. These get loose over time as the gasket gets older and compresses. You may just need to tighten these screws a little. They should be just a hair more than hand tight.

Ours dripped once when at the beach, high humidity. If it does it again, I'll be checking the drain lines.

edatlanta could be on your Christmas card list with his good suggestion. Worked for me a year or two ago.

There is no drain line. Tighten the four clamping screws that compress the foam gasket.
DO NOT CRANK THEM TIGHT. No more that one turn should do it.

This has happened to us as well especially when running the air conditoner all night long in a high humidity time period. What we usualy find is checking the roof mounted 14" x 14" roof mounted gasket we will notice it is not tight. This gasket should be depressed at least a 1/4-inch. You can observe this gasket by just pulling down the inside panel where you air conditioner filter is located.

Looking up inside the bottom side of the roof installed air conditoner you will see four LONG screws that holds the bottom section to the top roof air conditioner section. These may tightened to show at least 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch depression of the square air conditioner gasket.

Note these four long screws are the only thing holding your roof mounted air conditioner to the roof of your trailer. Interesting concept haha... Rough Road Vibrations and probably aging of the large gasket requires it to be re-tightned at times.

I used to run the I59 road in northern ALA on several trips to TEXAS and BACK and they had concrete road sections bulked there for 50-60 miles. My poor trailer would come off the ground going through there at almost any speed I would go. All the nig tractor trailer truck would be running down the side of the road there where it was smoother haha... I had to re-tighten my four air conditioner hold down screws alot...

Questions time. Then an explanation

1: Does it leak when it is raingin, but the AC is off?
2: Does it only leak when it's running.
3: Does it make a "Gurgling" noise?

Explanations:
If the answer to 1 is NO, then it means the leak is inside the AC, not the roof gasket.

On 2 and 3 (Both will often be yes) here is what is happening.

The inside air intake filters are dirty, this leads to a partial vacuum building up on the inlet side of the evaporator coils,

Now in normal operation water condenses out of the air as it passes over these coils and then drips off into a drip tray, from there it runs to a "lip" where it drains onto the roof, then it runs off the side of the Motor home (Assumes you do not have ducted water drains, most do not).

With the partial vacuum, water is SUCKED out of this drip tray into an area where it drips down on the filters, and from there into your living space.

Suggestions.

1: CLEAN the filters

2: Find the lip, on my Carrier Air V it's on the rear, on my Advent the driver's side.

raise the nose (Front0 of the rv like 1" (not much more) you may also need to raise the side (even less, perhaps half an inch).

I have had that problem on and off over the years and finally, last time, figured out it was nothing more than dirty filters.

There are 'weep holes' in the drip pan that frequently get clogged up.

You can clean them out with a pipe cleaner.

This is what cured my problem with water dripping into the trailer.

Thanks for all the helpful posts. To access these weepholes, are you getting on the roof and removing the plastic cover? How are you accessing them?
