Since the physics of the output from either poly or mono panels is most likely a continuous function ... not a discontinuous "ON or OFF" thing like the one's and zeros in the digital world, I doubt that mono panels suddenly "go to sleep" as sunlight weakens. Their output probably just falls off faster than that of poly panels in weak sunlight. Any sudden "going asleep" that mono panels seem to be doing may be the result of how the controller with them reacts to the declining output from mono panels in cloudy, or fading sunlight, conditions.
I wonder if the more expensive quality MPPT controllers, when used with mono panels, don't smooth out their output better in fading sunlight or cloudy conditions?
