anode rod

Finally got around to giving it a try. Used mt 18v 1/2 drive impact and it zipped right out. Nothing left but the metal rod. All the remains are in the bottom. What is the best way to get all the******out?

  • Make sure when you put in the new one you use Teflon tape on the threads and just hand tighten. It really doesn't take much torque to make it water tight and removal will never be a concern then.

I use the wand also, does a fine job.
  • Have no idea how old it was or what it was made of. The trailer sat for 4 yrs prior to me purchasing it last year.
  • I turn on water supply and give it a hard flush.....nothing sticking in drain hole so it's wide open and large chucks blow out.

Then I use the wand and point it up flush top of tank down the walls and then around bottom.

Another hard flush with water supply to finish up.

Course I only have a 1/2" drain hole vs the 3/4" drain hole on Suburbans.

Just curious.....how long did that anode rod last. And was it an aluminum or magnesium one??

    Try one of these.

Should be able to get one at most RV dealers. I've even seen them at Walmart.

    +1
I was surprised how much gunk got flushed out.
  • The flush thing that handye9 is talking about works awesome! cheap and easy, you will be surprised at the stuff that comes out.
    Happy trails.
  • Try a shop vac with a small hose. Connect shore water line for pressure, maybe turn water pump on at the same time for more pressure. Keep input water on while using suction hose to keep water flushing around. Try to grab big pieces with a spring-loaded grapper. Anything that you can't get, just leave it. It didn't hurt while it was attached, won't hurt just laying there inside tank. Install a new rod, and check it yearly. Good luck!!!!
