- free_radicalExplorerExcellent info everyone,thank you..
Hopefully the prices will come down soon.. - mena661ExplorerYou need a battery management system with LI's.
- pnicholsExplorer IIIt looks like these guys have it figured out best for turn-key reliable use in an RV - but it'll cost:

Sure but you will be building a separate system to supply power. Li-Ion batteries will need to have the voltage very closely controlled. You are not going to just connect to the 12v system and let it rip.
Could these batteries which are for ELectric vehicles be also used in an RV for deep cycle purposes?

Yes it looks like it can be done with 4 batteries in series.
I looked at this one http://www.evwest.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=4&products_id=51&osCsid=naglhlcs4afl705sfec49hln20 and with 4 in series, you will have about 12.6 volts 'nominal' and 14.2 max charge cut-off and 10 volts minimum cut-off. It is also rated for intermittent 800 amp draw from the battery, so it can handle most RV loads, such as a 12 volt 4 amp TV set and 7 amp water pump at the same time.
4 batteries $135 each = $535 (give or take) so it is still kinda expensive for only 100 amp hours, yet the weight is wonderful at only 8 pounds per battery or 32 pounds total!
Good luck!
Fred.
