Antenna cabling question

Just purchased a new Cougar 25RES and have a question about the antenna wiring.

This unit has a Wingard amplified omni-directional antenna installed and has the usual Wingard switch plate looking thing with the button to turn on the 12v (off for cable) for the antenna. Next to that plate is another plate with two antenna connectors that has a small 4" jumper installed between the two connectors, any idea why they have that jumper????

The tech doing the PDI didnt know.

  • Rover Bill,

    Thats the answer!

Makes more sense to me now, Im really surprised that its not labelled and that the fellow doing the walk through didnt have a clue :-)

    Thanks again for the explanation.

  • That jumper is on the coax that leads from your SINGLE outside cable/coax connector to the Wingard antenna switch/power plate. By default (as is), the wiring gives you an easy external connection to the CG coax and provides CABLE stations on your tv when the Wingard antenna is NOT powered. If you power-up the Wingard antenna, you will only get OTA tv even if you have a connected cable.

If you get a single coax satellite dish (like a Playmaker), you can connect the satellite to your SINGLE outside coax connector. The two connectors on the jumper box will then become your SAT input and OTA input for your satellite receiver (Wally). On my Passport TT, the top connector is the SAT input from the external connector and the bottom connector is the OTA input from the Wingard antenna.

You're welcome. Try reaching out to Keystone for a diagram. I said "Winne Shines" because they take more of an Automotive Approach to wiring than most seem to. I have a wiring diagram from Jayco, but it doesn't say WHERE the wiring is. That's more the House Approach. In a house, the Electrician gets a plan that says This Switch Controls That Light. How it gets done is pretty much up to him/her. When it doesn't light, you don't know where to look for junctions etc. In a Winnebago Coach, you do. Not true of Winnebago Towables. Different organization sharing the name only.
  • That set up usually means one of 2 things.
    1. They Ran the CABLE input from the outside to That jumper BEFORE the Winegard booster. That means you disconnect the jumper and use that outlet for your SAT system.
    2. They have an outside SAT input separate from the CABLE input and you do the same thing . Disconnect the jumper and install the Sat receiver to those coax connections. You will have to guess which is from the outside. Once found you then label which is from the outside. Doug
  • Thanks for the reply and helping with the duplicate post :-)

This is only a guess but here goes. It's based on helping owners of a Winnebago Class C get their TV working after a paid "tech" loused it up trying to install a DTV Converter Box.

OK, Cut to the Chase: That coach (and I have no idea about yours!) was pre-wired for Roof-Mounted Satellite. But it was not equipped with that system, and I remember a Jumper between two panels. In the Winne's case, those connections were behind the panels. My mission was to get these good people's TV working again, so I did't try to figure out the What-If's of it. This is where Winnebago (COACHES, NOT Towables!) shines. We looked up the wiring diagrams on their website and set about putting it back the way it was built. Undid the botch job the owners paid about $200 for. Then it worked. Amazing!

So, my guess... It's set up for some feature you don't have.

EDIT: For the Good of the Order, I don't believe the person I refer to as "Tech" was an RV Tech. This was 5 years ago, but I believe they went to a home entertainment store or the like.
