Any really good reason to upgrade to AGM?

The Interstate standard LA battery (single 12V) in our TT is getting replaced today under warranty today due to a dead cell. Is there a good reason(s) to upgrade to an AGM battery? We never dry camp so the battery never gets discharged much. Maybe the only technical benefit would be not having to check the battery periodically and top up the cells as needed? Am I correct the basic WFCO 3-stage charger isn't the greatest thing for an AGM? Don't really want to have to go out and buy a new converter/charger right away.

I've had the idea in my mind of mounting the battery inside for some time and have a nice out of the way spot where it could go. This would be another reason for me to go AGM, but again, don't want to have to upgrade the charger right away.
    • SEALED corrosion free connectors
    • No water to add ever
    • Charges faster discharges at a higher rate (kilowatts)
    • Much lower self-discharge rate when disconnected
    • Greatly reduced incidence of plate hardened sulfation
    • Will not freeze nearly as easily
    • Can survive repeated deep discharges better
    • More expensive
    • Heavier weight per amp hour
    • You get what you pay for

That being said, if any of the positives appeal to you or if any of the negatives turn you off, then it's decision time. Your "Never Boondock" should be a significant influence on your decision.
  • Given your scenario, save your money and go with a basic flooded deep cycle.

AMG's have their purpose but not for what you are doing.
  • One good reason to go with an AGM is that you don't need to vent it to the outside.
  • AGM tolerate heavy discharge better than flooded. Instead of replacing the converter add a solar system.
