- pnicholsExplorer IIFWIW .... when one thinks about it, many common motorhomes can be used fully based on only the main engine's fuel.
i.e. Our gasoline powered Class C has a built-in generator that runs off the main 55 gallon gas tank, so if it's propane system should somehow ever fail on a camping trip, the generator can power everything ... including electric hot plates and ovens .... if we were to carry them along just in case.
Here's a Class B motorhome that is powered by only solar and diesel, including a diesel furnace and diesel hot water heater. I believe that the cooktop is electric induction - powered by it's available eight AGM batteries. I assume the batteries are kept charged via solar and the engine's alternator and that they also run an air conditioner when camping .... all at a price (only slightly) less than that of a basic Earthroamer:
http://www.roadtrek.com/models/e-trek/ - Chris_BryantExplorer IIThe Earth Roamer is an all diesel rig, which uses the Webasto stove and carries no propane. They use a large solar array with ample batteries instead of a genset though. The batteries will power the A/C for 6-8 hours before recharging via engine driven alternator (or solar).
- pa_travelerExplorerWallas I think.
- mlts22Explorer IIWhat I like about the Webasto option is pretty much was stated above. I have a notebook of what I'd like for my next rig, customization-wise, and if the chassis was a diesel chassis, going with the Webasto diesel stove would be a no-brainer, if it were possible.
One idea I have for a custom rig is to run the entire thing from diesel, even the generator. Not that propane is bad, but it means just one fuel to worry about, and diesel can easily be carried in RotoPax containers if needed as well. - VintageRacerExplorer

I wonder if you could have a "runaway" stove?
I initially thought, "sure, that's called a cooling oil fire and it's always a big risk with any open flame burner". Like propane, for example. So then I clicked on the link to the diesel cooktop and saw that it is not an open flame, it's a ceramic cooktop heated by a contained diesel burner, with all the diesel fumes and humidity created by any open flame exhausted outside. So it's actually a kind of neat option. Like most things that I think are neat, I probably can't afford one...
Brian - BurbManExplorer IIII wonder if you could have a "runaway" stove?
- Golden_HVACExplorerI wonder if they have to be vented outside?
Anyway I wanted to save the link for later use.
