Aqua Magic Style 2 - bowl leaks down

I just replaced the ball valve and the water valve on the toilet. It was jamming and leaking - it doesn't do either of these any more.

However, maybe 75% of the time, the bowl won't retain water. It's a new gasket that came with the ball valve.

I don't know what I did wrong; I can't imagine what can be adjusted to make it hold water.

Suggestions? (no, I'm not going to get another brand of toilet)
  • Good suggestions (mostly). It's a new ball and gasket coated with silicone plumbers grease.

I'm thinking about putting the old ball back in to see if that stops the leakdown.

    Good point.

The particular kind that I've been using Oatey faucet and valve grease which is comprised of silicone oil (polydimethylsiloxane) in combination with silicone grease.

  • Clean the underside of the seal where it contacts the ball. One of my toilets came with a disposable nail file for this purpose.

After several years of this problem, I replaced the seal last summer, and 2 weeks later it started leaking again. I smeared some plumber's grease around it and it was good for a long time. Had to do it again about 2 weeks ago. I can feel the difference in the foot pedal. I believe that the ball was not fully closing from too much friction.

Make sure the shroud is pushed back from the flush pedal

  • :) Hi, I just spray Silicone on the ball, around the seal. I found that just water and RV antifreeze will dry out the seal and it will drain, and stick. Manufacture says to only use silicone on the seal.
  • look around real close, maybe a lip out of place give it a cleaning ,could be just a piece of grud in the way. OR do it again sam.
  • Very common problem with that Model/Brand of toilet, that's the reason many have switched to the Dometic brand.
