Atwood Range ?

We have a Atwood MPD57279 & 1 top burner will not light with the ignitor, it seems to spark as good as the other 2 top burners but will not light. I can light that burner with a match and get as high & good a flame as the other 2 that light with the igniter. I have tried cleaning the electrode anyway but no joy. Anyone have have a similar problem, or have any good suggestions?

  • Well, I got at it. In typical fashion, I ended up taking everything apart and cleaning the whole thing up. Didn't paint anything as that requires the propane to be disconnected and we'll leave that until such time as we are not living in the RV.

What did I find? Not much. The spark seemed to always go up. That would have been great for natural gas, but propane is heavier than air. I used a little fine sandpaper on, and around the igniter area. Now the spark seems to go down at least 50% of the time. The burner lights now but I think it could be better.
  • Just a thought. Look at each burner to see where the spark is landing. I'm guessing that the burner with the problem has the spark landing in a different area than the gas flow. It might just be a simple adjustement to the igniter to make sure the spark is actually hitting in the flow of gas.
  • If it is like our Magic Chef, there is a single ignitor in the middle with gas tubes to each burner. There is several small holes close to where the tube connects. Using a tooth pick, clean the holes and see what happens.
