Atwood water heater not working with lp

Ok the bad part is it seems like an intermittent issue with wiring. At the wiring where plugs into circuit board it doesn't always have 12 volt coming from switch inside. I honestly don't know how long it's been like that since we usually use electric. 12 v coming from inside switch for electric element is fine. Also there is 12 v on back of inside switch for gas so I'm afraid there's trouble in the circuit from switch to water heater.

  • Cleaned the connections and now it works. At least until I take camping.
  • Lol ugh. Ok I replaced the intermittent switch. Now when it fires it tries 3 times and goes out and illuminates pilot light inside camper. The thermostat circuit is closed and good. Good ground and 12 volt to the orange gas circuit. What next?
  • Thanks. It's a simple non proprietary rocker but I'll find on amazon! Everything is on amazon!!

So in the end the switch is bad. Best place to buy rocker switch that matches the rest?

    Maybe HERE?

This happened to me last year. It turned out to be the wire from my on off switch on the hood over the stove to the WH. You can take the two wires of of the switch and connect them together to see if you get 12v to the WH eliminating the switch as the problem. I found it impossible to trace the wires from the switch inside to the WH to replace so I ended up tapping into a 12v source from the 12v power supply in the rear and installing new wiring and switch. Good luck to you.
  • Thanks I'll try to get behind water heater to find the connections.
  • Long before the ECO/T-stat/Thermal fuse mentioned become involved you have to have 12V DC to circuit board via ORANGE wire/Gas (or White/electric)

Look at backside of water heater and see if there is wiring junction.....water heater comes with wiring that has to be connected to wiring from ON/OFF Switches.
Could be as simple as loose wire nut. (WHITE/Electric, YELLOW/DC Relay, ORANGE/GAS, BLUE/Fault Light, GREEN/12V DC Neg)

ORANGE wire gets 12V DC from GAS On/Off switch.....circuit board has to get it first THEN 12V DC goes out BROWN wire (bottom connector) to thermal fuse/t-stat and back to circuit board via BROWN wire (top connector)
Then 12V DC goes to ECO/Gas Valve via RED wire
  • Look at the connections on the ECO and thermostat make sure they are connecting tightly.
Adjacent to the ECO/thermostat there is on many a thermal fuse hidden behind a shrink tube covering.
I would replace the ECO and thermostat plus the thermal fuse.
