Here is specifically what I was talking about and it's also key to use some sort of tensioning system like a bungee cord or spring so the nylon strap can give some. Otherwise you have just another fixed span albiet smaller than the original.



In 8 years and over 800 nights I think I have needed to use them like 3 maybe 4 times and usually no longer than a day.
