Back-powering 110V system while travelling..

I know that I can, and do, use my home generator by plugging the two outlets from the genny into house outlets that are powered by different busbars in the breaker box, (after shutting off the master), but I'm unsure if I can do this in the TT.

My plan would be to connect an inverter to the 12v Winegard outlet and then plug the inverter outlet back onto a 110V outlet in the trailer. I'm assuming there's only one busbar. This should energize the whole system and allow me to power the fridge in my outdoor kitchen while I make a long trip and arrive with cold beverages in the fridge, (I usually only take short trips so I chill the fridge and contents and drive to the location arriving with cold contents still).

My concern is the converter. The power will essentially come from the TV engine but I'm worried what might happen since I'm sort of making a loop. Does anyone else do this and are there any specifics I should know or should I just not do it.

I would also turn the internal fridge from Auto to LP while in transit to reduce the load on the inverter.

Also, since my TT is 15 miles away doe anyone know the wattage or make/model of the fridge in a Bullet 31BHPR outdoor kitchen so I can decide if I can use an existing inverter, (400W), or I should use one with a greater capacity.

What you are doing at home is so dangerous the cord you use is commonly called a "SUICIDE CORD".

Back-feeding the wiring in your house can result in injury to or death of the linemen who are working to restore your power.

    DON'T DO IT!!!

I did say "after shutting off the master". By that I mean I isolate my house from the rest of the power grid. The linemen are safe.
  • Disconnect the wire/cable from the chassis battery/system isolating device to the house battery(set). Then connect that cable to the input of the inverter(***). When underway connect the shore power plug/connection to the inverter output.

*** <800W,---- open the fridge CB, 1000W or more, you have enough to power the fridge. Your converter will be powered via the inverter thus the house battery(set) will be properly and safely charged.
  • That's one of the issues you encounter when plugging your shorepower cord into an inverter as it delivers power to every AC circuit in your rig. You could wire up a subpanel to feed specific outlets or connect inverter to battery and run a single cord directly to appliance you want to run.

  • It would be better if you just loaded the outside refrig with dry ice or ice while travelling to keep your beverages cold. Dry ice will last a weekend or longer depending on how big the chunk is.
