the 4/0 wire thickness (- Last page - I'm assuming they don't consider the cover with these numbers...) goes from .504" to .666". I don't see how the same lug can work for all those thicknesses.
Is it possible the the wire, lug and compression die all need to match?

Yes, I did try 4/0 battery cable from Interstate Battery with basiclly the same results.
I bought the lugs and shrink tube from Del City and the welding wire from a local welding supply house.
Yes, I do think you would need to buy the components from one source but that can be a very expensive way to roll.
