Battery Cisconnect

I am looking for a switch that will enable me to disconnect my coach battery to prevent discharging. I want to be able to connect and disconnect from within the camper but dont want to have to run battery cable. Is there an electronic switch i can use?

I not electrical so please keep it simple for me.

Thanks for all the expert advice

How about this? It needs but a 16 gauge wire run to it (which stays by the battery). But when you shut it off or turn it on, it uses a tiny amount of power for just a moment...

Mexicowanderer has the right idea! That's the way to go if you want to setup a remote switch! I have two of those in my electrical compartment. Switches are over entry door Main (chassis) and Aux (House)
  • That sure looks like it will do the trick.

Thank you all for your input, I knew someone here had the answer I needed.

MEXICOWANDERER has your answer. Mount this relay in the battery compartment, running the battery cables there. Mount a polarity switching momentary contact switch in the MH running a small gauge wire to this relay. Just be SURE to bring the 12v positive from the hot side of the relay when it is disconnected. Otherwise, it won't have power to reconnect.

  • You can use a latching solenoid as they do on some class A motorhomes but that requires you to run a battery cable to and from switch and place a rocker switch with wires to the switch in the coach. Is that something you want to do? If so someone here (me included) will help you dope it out.
