Scott G, rectifier type solenoids are indeed bad news but I doubt Blues Seas has sold one in many years. NAPA usually demands better quality stuff out of its vendors.
I believe the subject matter here is directed toward solenoid type switching but controlled automatically rather than with a twenty foot long control wire, totally vulnerable to bad quality installation and materials.
And the Essex tower type constant duty solenoid beats the can type solenoid for reliability, hands down. The 100 and 200 ampere solenoids are tower type.
