Bedroom slide will go in but not out...

Oy....I just moved to a new space in the same park. I had so much on the floor of the bedroom and since I was moving such a short distance I only put it in about 1/2 way. Goal was to creep over very carefully. But not I can only get it to come in and not out. It's the type of button that goes in, then push again to stop, push again to go out, push again to stop. It will only move on the "in" press. Nothing happens on the out. And I don't want to bring it in any more or it will be uncomfortable to sleep in and I thought maybe it would help to have it out to get to it to fix it so I thought I should ask before I let it come in any further. I also thought maybe bringing it all the way in would help it align and then it might go out but what do I know....I'm the dork who drove with it partially out. sigh...

Any ideas?

Thanks....
  • The motor was under the bed. There was no brake that I could find but through the cutout where the motor was I saw the basement of my rig so I went under and looked up and found the bottom of the motor. never noticed it before. There is an inch cut all around it and it goes right up under my bed platform which explains why my bed is always freezing in cold weather. So I will be insulating that from now on. (!) On the underside of the motor there is a pin with a tiny crossbar. Turned that with the crank and the slide slowly rolled out. This was just inside the front storage door. I am suspecting the switch (button) on the wall or the slide controller at this point. There's no ground anywhere near those where I can properly test the connections Not sure how to do that without a proper ground. But at least the slide is out. Instructions said to release the brake first but there was none to be found so I just started cranking and it went right out.
  • I read where the slide motor & mechanism is made by Power Gear. Give them a call and see if they can help you with this problem.
  • Per the directions you printed did you find the motor and release the brake? It may be that you just need to push the room out once the motor brake has been released.
  • I can't find the manual override for the bedroom slide. The hole outside for the crank is for the front jack, not the slide as I first thought. There is one just like it on the other side for the other jack. Manual doesn't say where it is, just says "Find the manual override." phff....
  • I thought of that. Might try that. Trying for the manual extension. Found the slide-out controller box on the floor under the bottom dresser drawer (narrow ones) -- is that 12v? Could I check those wires with the multi-meter? That might tell me if it's on line or if there's a loose wire or fuse issue. (for from slides, Alpenlite poeple, the controllers/fuses are under the range behind the big drawer).

The manual says a few things in order to manually open the slide. I'm going to copy that info here for anyone who might need the info in the future who doesn't have the manual:

    1. Turn off the on/off switch or key (if so equipped) I don't have one (2001 Stonecreek)

    2. Locate the slideout electrical controller. For version 1 unplg the six pin wiring harness from the controller. For version 2, which I have -- it's labeled with motor 1, motor, 2, fwd, reverse etc -- remove one of the motor leads...motor 1 or motor 2... from the controller.

    3. Locate the motor. It will be mounted to one of the slideout rails.

    4. Rotate the bracke lever on the backside of the motor counter-clockwise (looking from the rear of the motor) about 1/8 of a turn to the released position. This will release the brake that holds the room in place.

    5. The room is now free to move.

Now I have to figure out how to get to the motor. I'm guessing it involves opening the bed and somehow removing some panel inside there. ?
  • Have someone push the slide motor button to extend it and you push on the foot of the bed to help assist the slide going out. That might work for you.

Does the slide have a way to manually extend it out?
  • Thanks for the response. It's actually not. You can reverse course at any point. You have to cyle through reverse to go back forward if you stop going forward. And I'm afraid to go all the way in because I think I have to open up the bed and remove the storage line in order to get to the slide motor and if it's all closed up and won't come back out I won't be able to do that.

Anyone know if slide-out controllers are normally in the upper level or down in the basement? I see it on the schematic but can't see it anywhere in any of the cupboards where it appears to be located.
  • Move your stuff out of the way and full retract the slide. Then cycle it out again. I bet the slide is programmed only to extend from the fully retracted position.
