Bent / Broken Superglide 2700???

Thanks in advance for all the help. My buddy has a new Superglide 2700 hitch that was installed into his new Chevy truck. He has towed a couple of different times with no issues. When he went to park the trailer this weekend, he noticed that his hitch was actually bent (see pics) and he cant unhook the trailer. Any ideas of what could have happened???

  • I do see the capture plate but not the wedge. Without the wedge it wont slide the hitch down the rails when turning. Definately looks toast. Either the wedge is sheared off and gone or he was sold the incorrect one/defective one. They are pin box specefic.
  • That looks like an over 90 degree turn that done that damage. If you look close even the plastic glide blocks and slide rails are messed up. The block on the capture plate may have sheared off. I would cry if that was mine.....well I would probably curse... huff...puff then cry! I expect nearly the whole hitch is toast and will be expensive to fix.
  • Yup, I see the sign warning that the capture plate must be installed, but no plate

Maybe we now know what they mean when they say "Damage may occur"
  • Any chance it went beyond 90 degrees in a turn?
I don't see the capture plate at all.

I had to take another look, I don't see the wedge on the capture plate. I should not be able to see the upper area of the pin if the wedge was still on the plate.
I thought the same thing. I do not see the wedge on the plate either.

    ???... nevermind... :)

You can pull the 2 pins on the head, then raise the landing gear a couple of inches and drive out from under it.
I have had superglide hitches for over 15 years and have never seen anything like that. Check to see if the hitch was under under size for the trailer. IE: Using a 16k hitch when a 25k was need.

thanks! I will forward this info on. He worked with the local retail / installer on the hitch purchase... i would hope that they guided him right (although you can never fully trust anyone but yourself!).
