I just did an up-to-the second conversion of gasoline price per gallon down here and it comes to $3.23 US per gallon.

But I am forbidden access to the Houston gas price listing for the Petroleos Mexicanos, PEMEX, gasoline stations in downtown Houston, Texas. Can someone follow this link and post the USA PEMEX price?

Not possible to get more specific than to say some "problems" are as simple as 2 + 2. Get the point, I hope so...

Wife has a friend who bought a Toyota electric, whatever the name.
The driving and charging didn't fit within the design parameters.
She had to have the battery replaced within a year. Toyota covered it.
The car smelled like sulfur all the time, to me.
Our commute to the stores are about 60 miles one way or 50 the other, then there is the driving once we each the city and more than one store and being stuck in traffic for up to two hours and more sometimes, and demand for air conditioning, when temps are over about 75 as the car gets a lot warmer if the sun is out.
If it is raining the air air conditioning/ heater is a must, and when cold the heat is a must.
I remember, the old Cars from Model T and up. The fifties and some sixties models were miserable in hot weather, cold weather, rain or snow. It requires power to keep the air going.
A trip to the Doctors are over two hundred round trip, with some appointments a bit closer.
A battery powered car would be sitting on the side of the road until towed to where it could be charged.
A hybrid vehicle is the one running at 45 in 75 zone unless it is Porsche or Ferrari at ore than a million a pop, much more.
Th Tesla even won't fit most peoples requirements....as most people do not live near the city. All of you that do and think everyone else does,...well it ain't so.
There is one stretch of I24 in winter, that will be iced over and covered with snow invariable when I have to go to the Doctor. I can see sitting on the side of the road freezing to death.

I think I will stick with Sadie my 250,000 mile 05 F150, that can haul straw and sod and a bunch of other things and rides better, than a Toyota or Chevy or other car or the all wheel drive Edge which gets less mileage than the about 600 or more hp AMG unless you push it.
Satisfied with them all and they are paid for.
Why buy an expensive lab experiment that is just about guaranteed to strand me somewhere, and is the equivalent of an overpriced big golf cart.
Now when they get batteries that cost less than a years house payments or a new boat and might explode or burn at some point, and I can go 600 miles one way maybe. Even then you would have to find a motel for at least one night that has chargers at a higher room rent.
Now towing I suppose we can rig a charge circuit to our generators, in the Mh.
That would be ten hours at .75 gallons an hour. Seven and half gallons, at currently maybe 2.50 around here. Eighteen dollars and twenty five cents, for a charge or is it longer.
That's a little over eight gallons eqv. at avg prices around here excluding the five real cheap ones.
Then there is the wear and tear and oil change part on geneator. Add four more dollars.
Twenty two to twenty three dollars in cheap fuel, for a hundred miles, of driving lectric.
Maybe tape some big solar panels, on the car and mh and wire them to a charge controller and batteries. Don't drive too fast of course.
Yu know some of these lectics have regenerative braking. Maybe a rock on the brake pedal, as you tow it down the road. A handy dandy fire extinguisher, ner the mh door and extra break shoes and rotors of course. Wonder how much regenetrative brake rotors cost.

Moonbeam, just added .17 cents tax per gallon today for fuel. More more diesel.
Says it is to improve roads. The seventy cents per gallon used as road tax had fifty cents taken away to pay for such things as legal costs for suing the federal government for things unrelated to roads or cars.

IMHO it's going to get a lot worse in The People's Republic. The motor vehicle division moaned that having to print things in over seventy languages costs an extra 14 million a year. OH WAIT! That's right! Car license plates are increasing a whopping amount as well. Meanwhile the state insists on not building new motor vehicle departments to serve the public so it's PAY + PAIN.

Advantages for electric cars? You must be joking. Check the new laws.

When ELECTRICITY moves you, you are subject to the whim of government in The People's Republic. The disaster of the Wine Country Wildfires will not be known for several months. Long enough for the Public Utility Commission to raise rates without a nuclear grade backlash. Electrical rate increases will hammer, plus insurance rates are going to go insane. The people of California are naively pretending otherwise.

In the states, fuel tax is per gallon not per dollar, so the price has no impact on the tax collected per gallon sold.

There is actually an indirect impact though. Higher prices mean people buy more efficient cars which burn fewer gallons and there are fewer tax dollars collected...then people complain about the horrible roads that need work.

First, lane miles is only part of the formula. Vehicle registrations and population are also accounted for in the formula.

Also it's not nearly as bad as you think. Yeah, rural counties have a lot of area but a square mile of the UP might average 1-2 lane miles. A square mile of Metro Detroit might average 20-30 lane miles. Keep in mind 4-8 lane roads are common in urban areas but most rural areas are 2 lane roads.

Example: Keweenaw county has 350 lane miles of roadway. The 3 Metro Detroit counties have a total of 5500 lane miles of Trunkline roadway. That's only the freeways and major arterials which are less than 10% of all roads.

In the end, rural areas do get a bit more funding per person but it's not that dramatic of a difference and those urban dwellers want nice roads when they head north in their RV's.

If you made it straight up based on population, the rural areas would quickly go back to unkempt dirt roads.

Ontario downloaded a BUNCH of secondary highways to the Counties they were located in. The powers that be saw this a golden (literally) way to get their hands on the road subsidies.

A couple of years later and their all bawling and complaining about how their LOOSING money on the deal. Sure it’s a rural area, but the highway through the middle connects other big centres of populations.

The end result is that the former highways have relatively high use by vehicles that are doing nothing but passing through, so when it snows for instance, that busy former highway needs a much higher level of service because of the higher volume of traffic. All the locals see is that their roads are snow-covered while the roads for those just passing through our very well-maintained.

IMHO lane miles is a very fair way to do it. Why should some under populated area go bankrupt trying to pay for road that is required for the overall population to pass through that area?

Run the numbers and overall cost will be far lower with an inexpensive high MPG gas powered car.

The best option is just to stop traveling...so are you part of the solution or part of the problem?
