Gasoline will store very well in sealed containers. Gasohol (ethanol blend at the pump) stores reasonably well in sealed containers, or a closed fuel injected system, but not worth the risk. The trouble comes from air with water vapour getting to the gasohol like in a carburetor system.
If you have a small engine that absolutely must start when you need it - your cold weather emergency generator, the jaws of life pump on your fire truck or that dam chain saw or weed whacker - you can use synthetic gas like Aspen gas which has a 7 or so year shelf life. It is available straight or premixed for 2 cycles. It is safe in all engines. . It is not cheep.
