BEST WINDSHIELD CLEANING ?

My wind shield looks clean until I head into the sun. Thebn I see swirl marks and glare. I use a clean cotton towel, fold often and have tried various window cleaners. The most recent was Rain ex wind shield spray cleaner. What do you use inside and out?
  • Foam window cleaner or windex and paper towel (not the cheap stuff, it streaks terrible) and only when the windshield is in the shade and not hot from sunlight.
Don't skimp on the amount of cleaner you use. That will streak it too.
  • I use Ultra Luster Waterless wash and wax. This is by far the best glass cleaner I have ever used. The sheen it leaves is incredible. Macktee
  • Four ought ultrafine steel wool first on a dry windshield.
  • I've found the best thing for me is to use a foaming window cleaner to clean the windows (I use Sprayway.) The foaming action allows you plenty of time to clean the windows without the cleaner running down the window. Then after I get the "dirt" off the windshield, I use a new dry paper towel to buff any residual haze from the windows.

  • My entire life I have cleaned windows on my vehicles and house using Windex and plain old newspaer with black ink (not colored). The newspaper eliminates the streaks better than anything else I have tried. Give it a try.
  • Hi,

If you have a little dirt on your car when you wax it, the wax will act really good at keeping the dirt UNDER the wax. Same thing happens on Rain X.

I would suggest cleaning with Windex - something with ammonia in it that will effectively remove the Rain Ex. The once it is clean, apply the Rain X and it will be much easier to clean the next time. Clean the inside, and then look at it towards a bright light, and see if there are any streaks left.

After the windshield is about 35,000 miles old, it can get a pitted look to it. It is actually microchips from gravel being thrown to the windshield.. You really can not get that out. I had to replace one half of my windshield once, and you really could tell how much cleaner and clear the new half was. A close look at the old one found a lot of microchips.

    Fred.
