black and decker 18 volt battery question?

An 18V Lithium battery charger will have control circuits so that the battery is neither under-charged or over-charged. A constant 18V charger for Nicd batteries will not have these control circuits. Don't mix them up.

If your charger has a 120V cord, it's possible to replace it by connecting exactly as the original. The low voltage cord can also be replaced or repaired by soldering with a good heat shrink wrap to complete it. Using alligator clips presents the possibility of error and destruction of the batteries or charger.

Never use alligator clips on 120 unless you want to kill someone. OOPS! Did I say that. Unless you want to injure someone.

Hmmm.. I have two of those batteries and one stays in the drill and one in the charger all the time. Been 4 years now and it ain't killed the batteries yet. Go figure.

Batteries (2) would heat up and not charge. Opened them up and found bad cells in both. Thought it strange both did the same thing. Had new cells put in packs and got a better charger. No more problems. Could have just been battery problem but didn't want to take chance.

me too and you can usually buy some tool with 2 batteries and charger cheaper than replacement batteries.

Always a bummer when a manufacturer discontinues a line. We have a significant amount of the Ryobi TEK4 line. Great products. Unfortunately they have just been discontinued. We have a half dozen batteries and about 4 chargers so we are probably set for awhile but I I'll probably pick up a few more. Ryobi says they still have lots of batteries in stock so they should be available for a few years yet. We are also invested in the Ryobi 18 volt line but I suspect they will be around for awhile yet.

Incidently the B&D 18V products are going away. If you want to keep using your 18V products you should consider buying some replacement batteries while they are still available. I have started rebuilding mine with Sanyo 2.4AH cells. I have done two so far and have enough cells to do two more. Run time has significantly improved compared to the standard B&D 1.5AH battery. I have too many 18V products that I use on a regular basis to switch over to something different.

You will let the magical smoke out of the battery-------and probably injure yourself or others near by when you plug it in.

The charger cord you lost plugged into 110V AC outlet but had a converter that changed the AC to DC low voltage.
(same thing the RV converter does....just on a smaller scale)
