The early Vectors from before about 2005 (eg 1093A) had only a pulse type "recondition mode" which did not raise the battery voltage at all. (pulse mode being of dubious value as more testing has shown)
The next generation of Vectors, eg, 1093D s had both the original "recondition" and the new "equalize" modes. The equalize mode required you select Wet and not AGM and also be in the 4 amp setting. It went/goes to 15.7 (temp adjusted--when cold out you can see 16.x) does its thing at 4.1 amps, which then taper, so eventually it says FUL and shuts down. Time at E varies so it can take several hours or not very long--somehow it "knows" how long the batts need.
That means you can do an equalize overnight while asleep and don't have to be there to shut it off. Works great!!! 6s reach baseline SG--gottaluvit!
When Black and Decker took over, around 2005, that 1093D became known as the VEC1093DBD. Then Stanley came on the scene and then they palmed it all off to somebody else, who has completely dropped the ball, so here we are. :(
I can use my PowerMax ADJ model converter with cut off jumper cable wires in the output terminals as a sort of higher amp Vector, but it is not a complete substitute:
A- it has only the one amps setting, for the constant amps bulk stage,
not four choices like the Vector. (40/20/10/4) If the amps are too high, you need a lower amps rating converter
B- the PM-ADJ lets you pick voltages, so you can do the same as the VEC for temp adjustments, but it is not automatic--you find out the proper voltage and set that yourself.
C- it does not shut down by itself when Equalization at say 16v is complete. You have to monitor that and shut it off yourself, so can't do it while asleep overnight.
IAW, there seems to be nothing like the VEC1093DBD anymore, which is a great pity.
