VEC1093DBD replacement fan?

It would be absurd to dismantle the charger, squirt some lube and put it back together rather than replace an under $10 fan.

Unfortunately I didn't write down the original fan. I had to put it back together to use it next week. Don't quote me but I think the original is a 'Xinruilian RDM6020S'. I Googled the original and found no specs on it.

It definitely is 20mm thick and I can't find them locally. The local electronics store only stocks 25mm and 15mm thick fans.

Use a ball bearing fan. A sleeve bearing fan will wear out quickly when oriented horizontally.

FWIW, I've lubricated dozens of muffin fans, sometimes having success. Usually, by the time I've mistreated and not maintained them, they may die. Your situation is just a poor piece of hardware, i.e. the original fan. I've had good luck with the Ever-cool fans. If it's too loud, lower the voltage, you'll still get plenty of air flow through a small case like that.

If you can research the fan that is in it and find the CFM or cMeter/hour ratings then we can at least meet the CFM requirements of the original fan Can you post a pic or type the fans sticker over the center hub?

You sure the fan is 20MM and not 25MM thick? Would a 25MM thick fan fit?

I am most impressed with Noctua fans.

I replaced the loud 40mm fan in my Schumacher with a 60mm Noctua.

These come with 2 optional resistor cables to slow them down. I put both inline for super slow speed yet the schumacher does not overheat.

I'll be taking this fan and putting it into my new Meanwell 30 amp clone that can do 37 amps, but with no resistor cables.

X2 on the WD40. I just give all these little fans a squirt of whatever kind of spray oil i have on hand when they start squealing. It has never failed to stop the squealing. Been doing it this way for years on battery charges,inverters,etc and have yet to replace a fan.

Move enough air and it'll rip the MOSFETS out by their roots. With 24 gauge aluminum sheet make your own wind tunnel. As thin skinned as those PSU's are with aluminum, the body of the fan is the 600 lb gorilla.

These critters IMO are not Andy Warhol or Pierre Cardin candidates.

They ugly.

post a picture of the old fan, i have the same charger it does not move alot of air for a computer fan

the one listed is prolly fine.

mine are makin noise too

pictures of the dissection would be nice as well

Since it is a small confined area, if the fan overlaps the intake and part of the exhaust the air will be trying to go two directions at once. In that case the air would go nowhere. Then there is also the issue of an external fan being exposed to bumps and scrapes.

I did consider mounting a larger external fan and opening up the opposite side so the air would flow straight through both chambers. As built, the air goes in the lower port, across heat sinks, turns 180 degrees, crosses more heat sinks, and back out the upper port.

Looks like a good replacement to me. The vampire* is going to replace fans on every piece of new or new to him equipment in the dungeon.

Let us know how i works out... Might want to change mine out as well. I use the portable 40AMP charger all the time when camping. Works great running off my 2KW Honda Generator.

The original is two wire and this replacement is three wire but it shouldn't matter.

I have read that some used an external fan but I would prefer to stay inside the case. An external fan would be complicated because the air intake and exit are in close proximity on the same side one below the other

I mounted a new fan on mine externally. The original made horrible noises when the charger was first plugged in until it warmed up then was ok. Turned out the fan unit inside its slot was loose, and I couldn't fix that.

I used the fan off my old broken Paramode converter, sorry don't have the specs for it , but it is about three inches square and one inch deep. I just spliced its wires to the original fan's wires passed through the vent.

I mounted it on the top of the outside vent same place the original was behind there. It didn't work so well when I first put it on with it sucking air out. It works very well blowing air in. ( I see my PowerMax converter's external fan also blows air into the unit)

I don't have any issues with the in and out venting that was mentioned--not clear what the problem would be there.

Anyway it now runs so you can't hear it--Sort of spooky after the original--very nice--and no overheating problems at all.
