I thought so too. But the Kelley II has original LED line voltage indicators in 5 stations that depict shore/gen power. They are not blinking LEDs. Apparently their innate PIV is high enough for 170 peak to peak.
One thing for sure -- the bench test gets done on ceramic tile! If it does a Cheech & Chong movie title, nothing ventured nothing charred. PWM is the way to go but 120 - 12 volt warts aren't cheap, aren't water proof and I am not aware of any open frame 500 ma or 1000 ma AC to DC buckers. None that are not priced 100 times more than the sum of their component parts.
Gordon Three. Those circuits are cute. But I have to check my capacitor inventory - some of those puppies are pretty high voltage rated!
