Brake job cost?

Can anyone give me an idea of what new bakes on TT with Lipert axel with 14" wheels? Have an idea of what the parts might cost including seals but have generally done the labor myself but as I get older just as soon pay for it. I have a mechanic friend that has offered to do it for me but I know he won't charge me what he should. Would appreciate a ball park estimate so I can be fair to him, worth it to get it done right.

  • If you want to replace the seal, repack the bearings and adj the brakes when your done, it's more like 1/2 hr per wheel. That's what the estimate would have been back when I did that.
  • You can purchase a complete brake PLATE already put together with all new parts for about $55.00 per wheel. Installation is four bolts and one wire connection and takes about 15 minutes per wheel.
Available at PPL Motorhomes. Link option is not working so here is the Web address to copy into your browser. http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-wheel-covers/electric-trailer-brake.htm

  • I would say 30 to 45 minutes a wheel, if he knows what he is doing. Going rate for a decent mechanic is 80 to 120 an hour. Figure labor, $250 to $350. But then, I am just pulling numbers out of my Donkey.
  • Midwest labor prices are $100-->$150/hr. Definitely worth the price to have some one work on your rig that actually cares about the quality of his work.
  • Complete brake assemblies including the backing plate are around 50 dollars a corner. Seals from NAPA maybe 10 dollars each. Tube of grease and lots of paper towels, priceless.
