Broken off anode blues!

This is the first time that I take the anode out on this used camper. Apparently the previous owner never changed it.
Anyway. . .the anode broke off inside the water heater.
The bolt head came out but is still attached to the rod around which the anode is attached.
What the heck do I do now to get the anode out?

    Yup. Not broken off.

Get a flush wand and flush the tank out.

  • Posters above are correct. Here is what a new rod looks like and one that you have that is used up.

As Home Skillet posted, flush out the old anode rode "gunk" and put a new one in. Use a couple of wraps of Teflon tape on the threads.

  • Are you certain that it has not been totally consumed if it was never replaced?
