Bummed, barely used AC already Not Performing.

I can't believe my AC is already in need of attention!

I have a Lance 950 with Colman Mach on the roof, the blower is blowing well, the air starts out cool not cold, then instead of getting cooler, seems to warm.

The Camper is a 2013, not much use, but the generator and AC gets run for fifteen minutes at least once a month. Have never used the AC for more than a half hour. When it worked, it did a bang up job.

Any ideas, is it common for AC units to lose their coolant charge this soon? The camper has not been in any dusty areas yet,I doubt the filters or coils are dirty, only urban camping out on the wharf or along the cliffs. Are rooftop units that temperamental?

Dammit!
  • Return air goes thru filter then thru evap coil to get chilled then over to discharge plenum where it get blown into rig
The wall between return side and discharge side should be sealed so cold/warm air no not mix.

    That is the 'divider'

    Also........2013 year.
Have you ever cleaned the return air filter?

They are NOT your household type filters that can go a whole season .....once a month even when not being used much. Just a thin foam filter.
Also evap coil.it gets dirty....poor cooling capability

Don't know a thing about AC, but we are taking off on Friday, I'll go up top tomorrow, pop the cowling and see if something obvious calls to me. I'll look for that divider as well. Is the problem most likely up on the roof, or under the cowling inside the camper? I'm guessing up top is the place to start?

Only so much I know what to look for before I'll have to take it in and pay somebody.

it's inside where the filter is drop your interior cover
  • The roof airs on my rig used to run smooth when just the fan was turning but when the compressor started in a person could feel the shuddering. Dang frustrating right before a trip! Best of luck for a fast fix!

  • Had a similar problem on my 981 Max (2005). It wa ultimately repaired under warranty by adding a valve so coolant could be added. Lance first insidted that they were going to replace the unit but because FEMA was sucking up every RV A/C to equip trailers for Katrina victims none were available.
