Buried 50A power to my RV

Yes, I should get an electrician to do this. That said:

Right now, my 50A cable is stretched out along the edge of my driveway. I have a 50/30 dogbone connecting my 30A extension then a 30/15 adapter plugged into a GFCI socket on the house wall. about 75' of not good.

I want to bury #6 cable and install a 50A receptacle right by the RV. It'll be connected inside the house to a sub-panel that I WILL get an electrician to install (which unfortunately is about 120 cable-feet from my main panel).

What about the buried part? PVC conduit? What have you done?

  • It it was me, I would just use UF-B (underground feeder cable, direct burial). No need for conduit. Just dig a trench, if the trench is rocky, put in some sand for bedding, lay in the cable and cover it up. There will be many posts saying how much better it will be in conduit, but UF-B is designed to be directly buried, not to be put into conduit. I would guess millions of miles of it has been laid without conduit, and the lights around the world still work. The KISS (keep it simple, stupid) principle works for me.
