burned wires in converter. Fix wires or replace converter?

Hi,

The converter in my TT is not working and I've used a multimeter to confirm that my shore power is providing 120 VAC. It is a 30 amp system.

It appears the burned and corroded wires are the problem from this picture below:



Is it worth cutting off the burned/corroded portion of the wires and then reattaching them to the neutral terminal bar, or does it appear the neutral terminal bar needs to be replaced as well? I was going to try to address the wires first inside of the WF-8944PEC converter (3 years old) before attempting to replace the entire converter.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't plan to work on this until next weekend.

  • thanks for the considerations, will open it up more and focus on the wires on the right to answer the questions. The hot water heater is gas only, so I'm suspecting the fridge, which was on for ~24 hours when the issue first became apparent.
  • thats the Neutral Buss, the wires on the right nearest the breakers burned
    the heat transfer damaged the ones on the left


    what/where do those right side burnt neutral wires connect to
    is that part of the input shore power circuit ?
    water heater, electric for the fridge
    or did they just come loose and cause that heat
    did the converter power section behind the panel overheat ? short out ?
    you are looking at the Neutral power BUSS, not the charge converter
    which is a seperate section that is also connected
    and might or might Not be one of the burnt wires
    you need to open up the whole thing
    to find out what happen and why
  • Yes, assuming I knew what that was that caused this. I haven't run the Air Conditioner in a while, and I planned to monitor things after I address the wires/converter to see what might be causing the issue, assuming it wasn't loose wires to begin with. I got the converter new with the camper and haven't been monitoring the wire state until the AC power stopped working.
