OK....silly question I know because even though I'm asking it, I will measure before purchasing but the background first. I need new inter-connection battery cables. I have (6) 6-volt batteries in a typical configuration (3 set's)....is there a length that is also typical of these wires. There is the three shorter lengths between the + and - and then the four longer ones between the outside terminals of + and -. I see some companies sell 6" and 12" lengths and I'm thinking that sounds right but when you are ordering 2/0 or 4/0 cable..I want to be sure. I was set to order wire, crimps, heat shrink from Amazon but it seems I can get them made for less. PS...only reason I'm asking is that I don't have access to the batteries here at home.

Measure.......Internet guessing will get you 1" too short :B

You need a trip to the rig. Install batteries in the rig. Layout the positive and negative to the rig. Then measure the cables and type of cable clamps, get them. Look and measure how the cables feed the rig.

Had the same dilemma. Long story short I decided to make my own and have not regretted it one bit. Nothing like custom (I) made and the ability to brag to boot! If you scour the interweb you can find good deals. Keep us posted.

I too decided to make my own cables... I found a source for ANCOR mil spec marine cable in 2AWG and 4AWG sizes... This brand of cable is super flexable... ANCOR also makes their own ring terminals... I found a $50 8-ton hand crimper tool as well I was able to make some very nice HD battery cables. Knowing me, I will always be making up cables for something... You can use the adhesive type shrink tubing and in my case I was privy to a shrink tubing cable marker...Doing your own cables ensures you get exactly what you need...Roy Ken

Cables come in just two lengths.... Too long and too short. Murphy says the ones you get will be, as someone up-thread said, 1" too short

The measurement is actually easy if you think about it- hole to hole, one set is the width of the battery, the other set is the length of the battery, if they are tight against each other.

I found a place that sells Super Excelene 4/0 for a little knee $4/ft. That's less than 1/2 of some I've seen. Link coming. Also don't buy expensive cable shears. A Home Depot PVC cutter actually does a better job and WAY less expensive.

You can make them self at West Marine.
If you have them made or make them yourself, apply some electrical grease inside the connectors before crimping.

Good catch Jeff... I was looking for heat shrink tubing on google images...

Just about everything I have here uses ring terminals so the hand crimper tool was well worth the $50.

Nitpick point Roy. That hex crimper did not make the crimped lug to the right in the picture. I'm sure yours are way nicer than that. But I agree. If you are rewiring the battery stack, buy a crimper and do it yourself.
