Maybe a shorted heating element
Or a bad struck thermostat for the tank heater
In hot weather the tank heater would add to 90>100° ambient temps, there is no cold air cooling effect,
Could perhaps build heat to a slow simmer, heat would speed up chemical reactions of decomposition, allowing for a combined effect of increasing intensity
Any heating in an enclosed space that does not have external cooling to control it is going to keep building when contained and the heat source is constant and not turning off
