Changing out battery

Need to replace engine battery. On the fuse panel on firewall there is a notice. All relays should be off prior to installing new battery. If I turn off the chassis battery at the inside door switch shouldn't this work. Have 2 switches one for chassis and the other for coach. Just confused. Thanks guys!

  • Ignition key off, switches in cab turned off. Don't forget you're going to lose ECU codes. If you have a vehicle which DEMANDS a hundred dollar dealer visit to reset the codes I would consider the use of a cigarette light plug-in power device (a Code Saver)

Read and follow the Code Saver directions exactly. Point-by-point.
  • Thanks for the responses. Just wanted to make sure I don't fry anything. LOL
  • My Coachmen has a similar warning notice, and the chassis battery switch inside the entry door next to the house battery switch disconnects everything except a couple of items that are directly wired to the battery. I recall that one is the radio memory, and the other might be the ECO memory, but I'm not sure of that. When I have to disconnect the chassis battery, I have a gadget that plugs into the dash 12-volt outlet and connects a standard small 9-volt battery battery to the wiring to maintain the memory settings.
  • The inside door switch controls the HOUSE, not chassis batteries unless your coach is wired VERY different than norm.
