I lost track intentionally at the 10,000 alternator rebuilds mark. I had to do -something- when batteries wete undergoing months long tests.
So I've torn down every conceivable rebuilt known to man. Other than the very few independent rebuilders who knew what they were doing - other rebuilt alternators were JUNK. When rotors and stators are re-wound they lose much of their low speed charging performance. I can't explain it all here but suffice to say they BURN out the old wiring and that DESTROYS the characteristics of the silicon coated silicon steel stator laminations. MU values soar. Slip rings need to be within .0005" round. Rebuilds are a joke here as well. Chinese regulators and rectifiers that DID NOT ENDURE ampere and PIV minimums.
Yeah, buy garbage. Then spend 300 dollars just on gasoline returning it over and over and over again. I made little ziploc bags for my sales counter. Inside were swatches of Velcro and wing nuts. EL CHEAPO LIFETIME ALTERNATOR MOUNTING KITS.
The only common rebuilts I ran into that were built right were FACTORY Ford GM and MOPAR. I sourced brand-new factory rotors and stators for my rebuilts. I used top of the line RENARD rectifiers and I had ZERO warranty claims.
Go ahead and buy a lifetime warranty pile of garbage. You just may win the lotteryvand have it work OK for awhile. But I do not stop for hitch hikers.
