charging batteries

I have an 18' travel trailer with two batteries situated on the tongue. When charging, can I charge both batteries @ the same time; or should I charge each one separately ?

The batteries are both linked. I was thinking maybe placing the positive lead of the charger to the positive side of one battery & the negative lead of the charger to the negative side of the other battery -?-

Lemme know the correct way to do this.

Thanx, Mark

That is todays proper way to do it, but just so you know,.....if all connections are perfectly clean and making good positive contact, there is nothing wrong w/ connecting to just one of the batteries.
And if all the connections are not clean and making good contact, they should be, because if their not, the batts will not charge properly no matter how you connect the charger.
  • Are your batteries 2 - 6 volts connected in "series" or 2 - 12 volts connected in "parallel" ?
  • I have the same set up as you and just hook onto one battery as they are connected and both will charge. Cut your charging amps in half. I bought an automatic charger to use with my generator. So far charges fine and quick
  • Together is best. If spending money get a 40 amp portable. Even better is to just upgrade the existing converter to a three stage unit.

that's the way to do it.
