Charging Battery More Efficiently

I have a single Group 27 battery. I love to dry camp. I have a Honda eu1000i generator and a wfco (?) 55 power center.

which is the most efficient way to charge the battery - connect the battery directly to the battery or plug the trailer into the generator, or neither is better - they would both charge at the same rate?

Thanks.

  • Hi,

I thought you had a solar charging system?

Go with plugging the rv into the generator. The 12 volt outlet on the genny is unregulated and a poor way to charge.
  • WFCO 55, single battery and Honda 1000 is not going to be efficient.

You need 14.2+ volts to be efficient with time and fuel. If the WFCO ever by some miracle went to boost mode it would promptly overload the generator. You really need a 30 to 40 amp charger with the Honda 1000. (40 amp max) Really should replace the converter or get a portable charger.

Going as is... use both. WFCO will supply some good amps initially but with voltage limited to 13.6 will have amps tapering quickly over 70% charge. The 8 amps from the Honda DC connector will then continue at a moderate slow rate.
  • Plug the trailer into the Honda, let the WfCo 55 amp do the job
The Honda will only put out about 8 amps from its 12v circuit
The WfCo Wil do a lot more

Some will say replace the WfCo...But mine always did what was needed
