Charging Issues

Hi
My chassis batteries will only charge when my motorhome is running (thru the alternator). Will not charge from shore power, or from generator.
I just put a new charging solenoid on with not help.

I have a invertor and a convertor, if that helps.

Thank You

Yes, it was a (bird) that I replaced

If it was a shiny solenoid it is only a bird type if there is a circuit that drives it. I doubt your year model gasser has the bird component.

Has it worked in the past the way you describe? With the ignition on the solenoid is a direct path between the battery banks. That control voltage is not available with the ignition off.

As suggested, a Trik-l-start or small charger is the ticket.
  • Mine doesn't either, and theres nothing wrong w/ it. Some chassis batteries, like mine, get charged by the alternator only. The house batts get charged by anything that putting out a charge,....converter, alternator, and solar.
  • Depends on what the solenoid is designed to do. Is it a BIRD (bi-directional)?

Otherwise you can add a Trik-L-Start combiner.
  • Pretty normal. There is an isolator that prevents thst from happening.
