The P3 gives voltage readings and other warnings about you braking system back to you. Which is very convenient when you lose brakes and it tells you there is an open ground or short someplace.
Try it first, maybe the controller gives feedback. The controller on my F150 gives feedback on the screen for the setting and if the connection is not good.
