The sensors used in propane and CO detectors aren't very selective about what they'll detect.
Lots of things other than propane or CO will set them off - Hair spray, nail polish (and nail polish remover), just about anything containing alcohol...
The gases produced by unsealed lead-acid batteries can also set them off, particularly while the batteries are being recharged.
