Any salesman who is not capable of troubleshooting technical problems over the phone when the customer says the unit is making a "clicking" sound should be fired immediately and blackballed from ever obtaining similar employment throughout the industry. "Click click click" is apparent to any salesperson with a brain to be a programming issue with the themostat. "Click click" would be a wiring interface problem and "Click Click, THAWCK, clank CLUNK" would be user error combined with frustrated smashing of the thermostat. All the salesperson would have needed to do is get out their copy of "The Official Salesperson's Guide to Clicking Noises" and the problem would have been nipped in the bud. We should all thank the OP for reminding us the proper chain of command to follow when we need service on items. Always call the salesperson and bypass the pesky manuals and service people.
